CDBCC Sidelaunchers win Mississauga regatta

The Collingwood Sidelaunchers brought home the championship trophy, June 13, handily winning the Mississauga Canoe Club's seventh annual dragon boat festival.
The Sidelaunchers posted one of the top times of the day, easily qualifying for the A Division final.
With a boat beside them that had posted a time near equal to the Sidelaunchers, the local crew weren't sure what to expect in the final. Collingwood relied on its patented start, and had built a solid lead at the 100-metre mark by the time Scoop called in the engineroom to put even more distance between the Sidelaunchers and their opponents.
With a final call of a 'Dirty Dozen', the Sidelaunchers took the final by nearly a boat-length.
Meanwhile, CDBCC sprint paddlers held their own for the annual MCC Home Regatta on the Credit River. Kayaker Mark Shouldice - the 2009 novice kayak champion at CanMas - continued to pick up the hardware with a third-place finish in the Masters Men K-1 division.
Other club sprinters who headed down Highway 10 included Brian Saunderson (K-1, K-2, C-1, C-2), John Carswell (C-1, C-2), Alex Filipev (K-1, K-2) and Nancy Moorcroft (K-1, K-2).
